Who are we?

We’re Tania and Jirka, a couple who started travelling together back in 2012.Someone once told us that if you don’t have much money, all you’re left with is a hell of a lot of time. That pretty much sums up our travel style, on the cheap and with plenty of time to spare. We are travelling around the world super slowly by means of working in countries where we can earn decent money then travelling to spend said money until we don’t have a cent to our name, then repeating the cycle.

The way in which we find our jobs also varies, one time we did an all-nighter and sent out 800 resumes across the planet, the next day we landed teaching jobs in China. Jirka went door knocking in Vietnam and ended up with a kiteboarding instructor job. We also volunteered in Papua New Guinea just by being at a pier when someone whom we had just met ran into someone who was about to jump on a boat heading to an island and was happy for us to join her and teach in the school.

About Tania. I grew up in Australia and studied Fitness then Outdoor Recreation. My first time abroad was on a school trip to Italy and France for 3 weeks. I saw a lot through the bus window, dragged a massive suitcase behind me, stayed in hotels and ate in restaurants. I was 17 and thought it was an adventure of a lifetime, ohhh how my travels have evolved. Now Jirka and I get around by hitchhiking, we like to sleep in a tent, cook food on our camp stove, and carry our homes on our backs. Instead of a week in a country, we usually stay for at least a month.

I am the writer of the blogs and dabble in photography, I love sports (playing not watching), will never say no to a good beer or a crazy adventure and am still learning how to sleep on a plane.

About Jirka. “A small aim is no aim” is one of Jirka’s favorite sayings which he reminds me of during challenging times like when we were stuck in fog, completely lost in the mountains in Nepal, no food and no civilization in sight.

Jirka grew up in the Czech Republic and completed his masters in Civil Engineering. Once he finished he was nicely in debt, to get out of it we decided to hit the road and travel, after 6 months working part-time in China teaching English which Jirka had only just learnt himself, we had enough money to get him out of debt and enough left over to travel Asia non-stop the following 9 months. Perhaps we have had some days living on just a few bowels of rice but we have also had some awesome adventures.

Jirka loves kitesurfing, photography, being in nature, learning how to build homes made out of natural materials and he is usually seen wearing a big smile.

Our plan at the moment is to bike ride through Madagascar, then continue from Tanzania up to Ethiopia, fly to Cairo then to Sydney. Once in Sydney we have three months to organise ourselves and I (Tania) have to learn how to buggy kite, then we are off to Mongolia, buggy kiting our way through for three months. After Mongolia we plan on hitchiking through western Asia, see all those nice 'Stan' countries, through Europe and end up on the Canary Islands so we can hitchike a boat across the Atlantic to the Americas. Make our way down through america in a van, kiteboarding along the way and end up in Antarctica where we plan on hitchiking to the continent. Once we have then seen the penguins, learnt Spanish and kited enough we will finally meander home and build ourselves a house out of natural materials. Well it is a big plan and it is the only one we have at the moment but a small plan is no plan, so we are going big.

After a few years of travel we are finally compiling a bucket list, crossing off a few major things we have done and a few more we still have planned.
